Francis Evelyn Niblo

Francis Evelyn Niblo, 85, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on May 24, 2025. She was the wife of Syd Niblo and mother of two children, Ellouise and Tom. Evelyn was born on January 15, 1940 in Abilene, Texas to Francis and Bear Thomas. She graduated from Abilene High and attended the University of Texas at Austin as an art major.

Evelyn taught oil painting for about forty years. Evelyn loved teaching art, entertaining, playing dominoes and bridge. Evelyn was an active mover in the development of trees in public spaces in Abilene and in the establishment of Los Aficionados. She served the Abilene Zoo, Chamber of Commerce, Planning and Zoning Commission, and Grace Museum. Memorials may be given to The Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest, Abilene Zoo, Grace Museum, Rescue the Animals SPCA, and Keep Abilene Beautiful (earmarked for planting of trees).

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, niece, sister-in-law, daughter-in-law, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren and was preceded in death by her parents, brother, husband, and son. The Niblo family wishes to extend our sincere appreciation and love to beloved lifetime friend and honorary family member, Maria Elena Dougherty.

A funeral will be held at the Church of the Heavenly Rest on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at 10 am with Father David Romanik officiating and interment to follow in the columbarium.
