Denis Lee Baysinger, 77, of Abilene, Texas, passed away surrounded by family, love and his favorite music on November 4th, 2026.

Born in Mokane, Missouri, on January 7, 1949, he grew up with a deep connection to the outdoors. In August of 1968, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Dyess Air Force Base working on the B-52 bombers. While working there he met his future wife, Beverly June Havner, when he visited the Kim’s drive-in on North 1st. Following a memorable first date at the Abilene Zoo, the two were married just two months later on August 9, 1971, beginning a loving marriage that spanned over five decades.

His career took him on several tours including Okinawa, Guam, and the Philippines. Later he worked as a missile silo facility manager after moving to Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri. He retired in April of 1990.

He spent countless hours on the water or in a deer stand, falling in love with the Missouri strip pits while stationed at Whiteman. He especially cherished fishing trips alongside his best friend and best man, Jerry Wells whom we lost in 2015. Nothing put a bigger smile on his face than watching his children learn to hunt and fish, beaming with joy when they piloted their own boats or hauled in a big bass at Lake Coleman, Lake Baird, or any favorite spot across the Big Country. Whether competing together in local bowling leagues, shooting pool in the garage, or visiting with his beloved grand-children or great-grand-children, he valued every minute spent with his family. Whenever visits came to an end, his familiar parting words were always, "Come back when you can stay longer"—a promise his loved ones hold close as they look forward to the day they meet again.

Denis was preceded in death by his parents, Amos Calhoun Baysinger and Frances L Saddler, and six siblings. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Beverly June Baysinger; four children, Shawn Randall Baysinger of Abilene, Michael Bradley Baysinger of Abilene, Denis Duane Baysinger of San Antonio, and Belinda June Baysinger of Abilene; ten grandchildren, Tim Baysinger, Haley Queen (Baysinger), Michaela Baysinger, Eric Baysinger, Cheyenne Baysinger Cosper, Elena Baysinger, Laina Sanders, Marcus Baysinger, Emmett Sanders, Opal Akins; and twelve great-grandchildren (Jacob, Karri, Aaron, Airyka, Kaison, Skylare, Oakley, Willow, Xander, Juniper, Viridian, Jeremiah). He is also survived by two of his sisters from Missouri, Donna Steinmetz of Holt Summit, MO and Margaret Perkins of Fulton, MO and finally, his favorite pup, Roman, whom he always shared burgers with.
